The following information is from Kathy Marshall:

The earliest Teeple we can connect to is John Teeple ( Tipple) who married Sophia Guest in 12 Sep 1790 at Oldwick Lutheran Church, Oldwick, NJ.

There were too many John's and not enough information to clear up the family lines any farther back.

John Teeple ( Tipple) born around 1760 died before 1830 unknown location.

The record of the Marriage of John and Sophia Guest is from the Church Records at Oldwick Luthern Church, Oldwick, NJ. These are on microfilm. I believe they have been copied by the Latter Day Saints and may be available in Salt Lake City.

The only other Record of John is from the Grave Stone of Sophia Teeple ( from the pictures I emailed to you). He is mentioned as her husband.

Sophia Guest-

  1. East Sparta Cemetery- grave stone died age 97y,5m,20d on Oct 3, 1858 which makes birth date of 13 Apr 1761.
  2. Death record in Stark County Ohio Death records- located at Stark County Library.
  3. 1850 Census- Pike Twp, Stark Co, Ohio listed as Sophia Teaple living with Son Geo Teaple age 45 and Daughter Sophia age 25( probaby 35 but it is hard to read.

Sophia Guest and John Teeple had 9 children.

This is documented in a scroll by Harry D Teeple of Akron Ohio ( 1874-1943). There are some areas that are questionable. Mostly, who he considers our George Teeple. Child # 4 George and Ann Teeple he lists is not connected to this family, but is related to this family. is another family, but his research is mostly correct on the other family.

1. A copy of a scroll sent to me from Linda Smith. The scroll was compiled by Harry D. Teeple ,born 1871 ( son of David Teeple, son of John and Dorothy Teeple). Here are the main family lines listed. Again, this is a "scroll" no other sources are cited for documentation.

                                   George and Sophia Teeple

v
Children are listed as

                       1. Jacob born May 30, 1790-May 30 1791 according to the death record/tomb stone)

2. Margaret born Jan. 9, 1793
3. John Teeple and Dorothy Miller( wife)
4. George and Ann Teeple
5. Mary Teeple
6. Ann Teeple
7. William Teeple
8. Pitney Teeple
9. Sophia Teeple born Aug 12,1810
The other source documenting the history of this family is the Summit County History of 1885? There is questionable wording in this

story that causes some quesiton.******* I think the names are true, but the order is questionable about the three brothers and father.*******( I am wondering if Holland was actually New Holland which was New York City area).

2. History of Summit County Ohio 1881 Page 820-821. This is exactly how it is printed

           A. Teeple. famer; P.O. Akron: was born in December. 1841. in Franklin Township; son of John and Dorothe (Miller) Teeple. He was born Oct. 5, 1795, in New Jersey: son of Andrew Teeple, who came from Holland. He had three sons - Andrew, George and John. The Teeple family came West to Ohio, settling first in Jefferson Co. , at Steubenville, where Andrew died in 1810. To him were born Jacob, George, William, Pitney, John, Mary, Sophia and Ann. At the age of 18, John Teeple, the father of the above, came to Canton, where he hired out as a common laborer. Being industrious and economical, he succeeded in saving means to enable him to engage in business for himself. He worked for some time at contracting. He made his first purchase of land in Franklin, where he cleared up a farm of 160 acres, which cost at first $3 per acre. Upon this farm he died Sept. 13. 1864; wife Nov. 26,1866. She was a member of the Disciples' Church. He believed in Universal salvation. Their children were Catherine, George,Isaac who was killed in the late war at Champion Hills, May 16,1863; member of Co.A, 42d O.V.I.; Simon, David, Aaron and John P. Aaron was raised to farming, receiving the advantages of the common disctrict schools, and finally attended two years at Hiram College, having James A. Garfield as preceptor. At the age of 19 enlisted in September, 1861 in Co. A. 42d O.V.I., and served three years, participating in the principal battles in whcih the regiment was engaged. In the fall of 1865, he was married to Rachel Hiser, born Dec. 16,1843, in Sandusky Co., daughter of Daniel and Elisabeth (Richard) Hiser, who had the numerous family of sixteen children, twelve grew up. Mr Teeple moved to this township in 1869, and has 100 acres of good land. He has two children - John Frank and Nellie E. Mr and Mrs. Teeple are members of Disciples' Church.

As you can see there is some question as to the correct name of you Jacob's father. Is it John, George or Andrew? Once we figure this out this will be a major find! also Margaret is not listed as a sister in the list.

Your Jacob was the oldest son of the above marriage of John/George/Andrew Teeple/ Tipple and Sophia Guest

Your Jacob is buried next to Sophia Guest Teeple in East Sparta Cemetery as is Elizabeth Culver Teeple. Next to them is buried Jacob's brother Pitney Teeple and his wife Isabella Merchant Teeple and then Jacob's Sister Sophia Teeple.

Brother William and Wife Elizabeth McKinney are also buried in East Sparta Cemetery.

Brother George Teeple is buried in Waynesburg Cemetery, Stark County , Ohio. I added his pictures to the google photos that I posted. If you can't see them let me know.

http://picasaweb.google.com/kathymarshall3/TeepleGraves?authkey=Gv1...

I do not have a picture of Brother John Teeple who is buried in Akron, Summit Co., OH.

The other picture I included was of John Teeple and Mary Agnes Teeple. This John is Pitney's son and my great great grandfather.

That is all for now. Email me with questions and comments or you can call me at 217-529-1627 or 217-299-2124.
