About John Waite, Convict "Coromandel and Experiment" 1804
John was convicted on 11th September 1802 of sheep stealing in the South Eastern Circuit Kent Assizes, was sentenced to death by hanging but commuted to life imprisonment on the 15th March 1803. He was described as being 5ft 5&1/2 inches tall, ruddy complexion and hazel eyes. He departed England on the 4th December 1803 on the Coromandel (522 ton, 12 guns, 44 crew with a cargo of detachment of the NSW Army Corp, 200 prisoners) and arrived in Sydney NSW after a voyage of 154 days on 7th May 1804.
John was granted a Conditional Pardon no 300 on the June, 3 1809 and issues on February 14, 1810. He was granted a Ticket of Leave no 195 on September 12 1810 being allowed to stay in the district of Parramatta provided he continued in the service of Charles Throsby. He was again granted a Conditional Pardon on January 31, 1818.
