About Jonas Pershale
The name Jonas is Latinized to Jona, and we are told that at that date he was ' sup'stes in partibus (now surviving in parts across the ocean). It is safe to assume that Jonas was born between 1690 and 1695. Jonas Pershall probably went first to Virginia, the prosperous Colony with which his Uncle Edmund was associated. Quite possibly he was sent out by Edmund himself, or by the Virginia Company of which Edmund was a member. There are, unfortunately, no records of Jonas in America, nor is the name of his wife known. He had a son, James, who was born in either Virginia, or the other colony of New York, about 1630 to 1640, The first record of this James is a deed dated December 12th, 1679, which shows that he was then a resident of the Isle of Wight or Gardiner's Island, which was then included within the limits of the township of Easthampton.
