Jose Reyes Chanco

Father Jose Chanco, otherwise known in some books as Fr. Jose Maria Changco(sic), or Padre Pepe among relatives, was a friend of Dr. Jose Rizal, and thus had a hand in the Philippine history.

Oral family record did not put much detail on his role with Rizal, but on at least one book by Gregorio Zaide, Padre Pepe(mentioned with the Changco spelling of his surname) was said to have been a member of Sociedad RDLM(Redención de Los Malayos), founded by Rizal in Paris.

That, and he was one of two Filipino priests who complained to the Pope about the injustices towards native clergy.
