Nachman did not believe in hereditary rabbis otherwise Avram Dov might have taken the title "Rebbe" as was the case when the first Skver Rebbe Tverski married Chana Sima daughter of Tsvi (Hershel of Skver), a cousin of Hodl and descendent of the Baal Shem Tov.
