Joseph Read left his home in Carrickfergus on Belfast Lough in Ireland in 1671 and crossed the Atlantic to Massachusetts in the ship "Arabella" ( Richard Sprauge, Master). He lived in Lynn (made freeman, May 11, 1681) and may have been the "Joseph Read, malster" who appears on the Salem County, New Jersey tax list of 1683.
