Joseph Arnold Seal

In addition to Joseph Arnold Seale and his wife Mary Ann (Buttrill) Seale, the 1860 census for Brazos Co. TX lists their three children:

1. Thomas J. (b. ca 1853 in TX)
2. Susan E. (b. ca 1856 in TX)
3. Rosannah T. (b. ca 1858 in TX)

and Joseph's brother, William H. Seale, a laborer (b. ca 1842 in TX).

The 1870 census for Brazos Co. TX lists three additional children besides Joseph, Mary Ann, and the three children listed above:

1. Lively (b. ca 1860 in TX)
2. John (b. ca 1863 in TX, CSA)
3. Mary (b. ca 1866 in TX)

Joseph's brother, William died in May 1862 in the Civil War. (See The Buttrill Family book, p. 72.)

The 1880 census for Brazos Co. TX lists Joseph, Mary Ann, and their four youngest children.

Joseph and Mary Ann Seale had a seventh child, their oldest, Virginia Ann Elizabeth Seale (b. December 21, 1850, in Brazos Co. TX). She married Samuel Bailey Marr (b. July 12, 1832, in AL) on July 23, 1868, in Naruna, Burnet Co. TX. They had five children, only three of whom survived to adulthood:

1. Thomas Frank Marr (b. December 3, 1872; d. October 16, 1924).
2. John Erasmus "Ras" Marr (b. August 18, 1875; d. March 15, 1956).
3. Elzy Ernest Marr (b. September 2, 1883; d. December 24, 1961).

Samuel Bailey Marr died August 2, 1898, in Hubbard, Hill Co. TX. Virginia lived to be over 100 and died December 14, 1951, also in Hubbard. (See The Buttrill Family book, p. 128.)
