Capt. Justin Lyschak received his diploma from Copenhagen's Marine School. From 1950 to 1964 he worked as Chief Mate or 2nd Officer on several large tankers sailing from New York City down to South America. The 'Alice Torm' tanker required half a mile as a turning circle and almost 2 miles to come to a full stop. Due to a shipping accident one of Justin's legs was amputated. He took a position as director and lecturer of the Copenhagen Marine School. He married Helmi Meinberg. There were no children of the marriage.

Torm Lines, a Danish shipping company, owns and operates tankers which carry petroleum products such as gasoline, jet fuel, naphtha and diesel oil.

1950 Jan. 5 arrival of M/S Gerd, 4,000 tons built in 1948, to New York City from Cabedelo, Brazil with J. Lyschak listed as 2nd Mate. He engaged ship at Rio.

1950 April 4th arrived on Danish vessel M/S ‘Gerd' 4,000 ton vessel in New York from Cabedelo, Brazil, Lyschak as 2nd Officer age 32, under Gunnar Birch. Helmi Lyschak, an Estonian its Stewardess. Record indicates that she engaged ship at Buenos Aires.

1950 July 3 arrived on m/s Gerd from Cabedelo (left 6.22.50) at N.Y. with Justin as 2nd Officer, under Master Bunner Birch. Helmi Lyschak listed as Stewardess.

1950 Sept. 30 Lyschak arrived on Gerd in New York from Buenos Aires having left 9.16.50, Justin as 2nd Mate under Master Rasmussen. Justin is described on the record as being 5'6" 145 lb.

1950 Oct. 21 arriv. N.Y. on Gerd expected to sail Oct. 24 to Rio De Janeiro under Rasmussen.

1950 Dec. 31 on Gerd arriving from Rio de Janeiro to New York, Justin Lyschak (Rio), age 32 as first Mate (from Rio) 5'6" 140 lb. Helmi Lyschak, age 33, as Stewardess from Buenos Aires, 5'4" 140 lb.. .

1951 Apr. 23 on Gerd from Cabedelo, Brazil, to N.Y. Justin as 2nd Mate age 32.

1951 May 15 on Agnete Torm, 2,400 tons built 1948, from Buenos Aires to N.Y., Justin Lyschak as First Mate. (Engaged ship at Baltimore)

1952 on m/s Birgitte Torm, 6,100 tons built l952, from Recife, Brazil to N.Y. on 9.20.1952, Justin as 2nd Officer.

1952 Dec. 6 took Pan American World Airways flight from Belem-Pana-Brazil to N.Y.

1953 Feb. 17 on Agnete Torm from Rio de Janeiro to New York, Justin as first mate. Helmi Elvine Meinberg Lyschak as Stewardess, b. Oct. 16, 1916 in Kohila, Estonia....she got on in Buenos Aires. (She had a daughter Heddi Meinberg born. Sept. 29, 1935 who died at 8 months of age June 5, 1935 buried Hageri kalmistu.) There is another record of Justin's wife dated Feb. 15, 1956, Helmi Meinberg Lyschak, Stewardess, arriving on Estrid Torm from Rio de Janeiro to New York.

1953 May 15 Agnete Torm arriving Newport News, Va. From Baltimore and expected to sail to Montevideo via New York under Capt. S. Krumpen with J. Lyschak as first mate.

1953 Aug. 11 on M/V Agnete Torm from Rio to N.Y. with Justin as First Mate. Continued on this ship from Philadelphia to Norfolk with J. Lyschak as lst mate.

1953 Nov. 17 on m/s Birgitte Torm, 6,100 tons built in 1952. from Tutoya, Brazil arrived in N.Y. Lists Justin Lyschak as Chief Officer (Estonian) (age 35, 5'8 and 175 lb.) under Captain Kristen Hansen Rasmussen with a crew of 41.

1953 Arrived November 27, 1953 from Baltimore to Newport News. (Norfolk), expected to sail for New York on Nov. 29. Arrived in New York on Nov. 30 and expected to depart for Richmond, Philadelphia. Arrived in Philadelphia Dec. 1st, 1953 and leaving for Rio de Janeiro same day.

1954 Feb. 4 arriving on Birgitte Torm from Buenos Airs to New York, Justin as Chief Officer, under captain Kristen Hansen Rasmussen.

1954 Aug. 3 arriving Birgitte Torm from Newport News to Baltimore with a crew of 36, Justin as 1st Officer.

1955 July 8 arriving on M/V Estrid Torm, 5,800 tons built 1952, from Recife, Brazil to New York, Justin as Chief Officer.

1964 Jan. 7, Justin applied for a Brazilian transit visa while stationed on the ship "Estrid Torm." Application made at the Brazilian Consulate in Buenos Aires.
