William Crocker’s wife, Katherine, died intestate in 1750 in Isle of Wight Co., Virginia. Her estate was administered by what was undoubtedly her son Anthony Crocker. In the absence of a will an estate was generally administered by the surviving spouse and/or the heir-at-law (closest living blood relative), which was normally the eldest son. Please note that the Anthony Crocker who administered the estate of Katherine Crocker was literate and always signed his name in full.
