Died at the Copper Queen Mine. The story is that the miners would relax after work by holding boxing matches, and Laurence took a blow to the heart.

He was the son of DeWitt Clinton Reed & Caroline Amelia Webb, husband of Melissa Butt and father of Laurence Robert Reed, who was born after his fathers death.

His headstone incorrectly lists his year of death as 1912
