About Leopold Juda Gabriel Porges Edler von Portheim
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~prohel/names/misc/porges.h...
From A Memoir by Erika Schulhof Rybek. "On My Own. Decoding the Conspiracy of Silence". Moses Porges and Leopold Juda Porges introduced to Prague the city's first steam engine around 1808 to run a calico or cotton printing plant. It is apparently recorded that Emperor Ferdinand I, who was promoting modernization, offered the brothers what they wished and when they requested equality for the Jews, they were told they asked too much but were granted full citizens rights on 6/5/1841 and the hereditary title of Edle von Portheim. Apparently Portheim was based on the Porges famiy origins in Porto, Portugal.
