About William? Vestal

Not the son of William Vassall, Pilgrim of the "Blessing" & Anna Vassall

From https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Vestal-74

Disputed Origins/Uncertain Existence: The William son of William Vassall died in childhood. Therefore this profile has been detached as son of William Vassall and Anne King. Whether this profile represents a real person is questionable. It appears that it may result from a misread of an 1862 pamphlet by Asa Vestal linked on the profile of William Vestal of New England

From Genealogy.com forums: "Vestal Vasall connection" http://genforum.genealogy.com/vestal/messages/921.html

William Vestal is not the son of William Vassell and Anne King. He is not on the 1635 list of passengers to be transported to New England on the Blessing. William and Ann Vassall, both age 42, and what appear to be their children, Judith (16), Frances (12), John (10), Ann (6), Margaret (2) and Mary (1), are on the list. Nor is he mentioned in William Vassel’s will written on 13 Jul 1655 in Barbadoes. He left one third of his estate to his son John, and the rest to his daughters Judith, Frances, Anne, Margaret and Mary. He mentions his son-in-law Nicholas Ware, the husband of his daughter Anne and he refers to Judith and Frances as the wives of Resolved White and James Adams, respectively. This not mean, he not connected to the Vassell family just not a child of William and Anne.

(WFT #5815) According to a pamphlet issued by Asa Vestal in 1862 on the Vestal family, two brothers, William and Daniel Vestall, embarked from London, England in 1683 and Daniel died on the ocean and was buried at sea. If this is the same William Vestal, he would have been about 16 years old when he left England. (WFT #5815)

[WFT#5-1974] William and his brother Daniel Vestal left England for the New World in 1683. Daniel died on the boat and was buried at sea. (Ref. "THE VESTAL FAMILY by Asa Vestal, 1862).

When William arrived here, he married Alice Glover Brunsden whom he had met on the boat. They were married in Chester County, Pennsylvania prior to 1692 at the Brandywine Baptist Church. Alice was the daughter of George and Alice Lambol Glover who lived in South Hamton County, Kingsclere Parish, England. Alice Glover's first husband was John Brunsden (Ref. Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania). She and John Brunsden had three children: 1) John; 2) Hanna and 3) Alice Brunsden. Her father, George Glover died before 1684. Alice Vestal's mother (also named Alice) had a brother who bought 625 acres of land from William Penn in Pennsylvania (Ref. Deeds dated June 29, 1683). This family of Lambolls were members of the Friends Church. In 1683, a highway was laid out which mentioned Alice Brunsden's name. This would suggest that John Brunsden was dead (Ref. Collections of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania. Family Dat a. U-V).

(Ref. Collection of Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania. Family Data U-V. p. 192): "Att Orphans Court held at Chester ye 1st 3rd day in ye mo. 1692: William Vestal and his Relict of John Brunsden Deceased was called and appeared. The Court Required the said William Vestal to give security to the Court well and truely to perform the Trust of Guardianship for the children of the deceased until he hath pased his accounts in oppen Court and be discharged according to Law accordingly he did."

Sarah Vestal appparently drowned March 3, 1696. There are no records for Mary and George Vestal. They lived in Conestoga, Pennsylvania and disappeared in about 1721.

William and Alice Vestal lived in Westtown Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania on Brandywine Creek until about 1737.

William Vestal was appointed Constable of Birmingham Township in 1694 at the Court of Quarter Sessions held in Chester, Pennsylvania March 1694.

(Ref. Court of Common Pleas, March 14, 1694): A deed was granted to George Stroud, Thomas Moore and WIlliam Vestal for 100 acres of land lying in Concord and was less than a mile east from the present Concord Station of the Rail Road (Ref. Smith's Atlas of Early Grants and Patents in Delaware County and formerly a part of Chester County).

(Ref. Ge. Soc. of Pa. Family Data U-V, p 192): William Vestal and Richard Biffington were deeded a tract of 216 acres on the East side of Brandywine Creek on April 6, 1696. At a later date, April 5, 1701 William Vestal and Richard Buffington were again deeded two more tracts of land of 49 ac es and 169 acres.

On Ootober 12, 1699, William Vestal was again deeded another tract of 115 acres adjoining his tract of 49 acres on Brandywine Creek. He erected a dwelling place here on this tract and lived there until his death in 1701.
