- ”Balvaird Castle is thought to have been built in the late 15th century by Sir Andrew Murray, of the Murrays of Tullibardine, most probably on the site of an earlier Barclay castle. Murray obtained the lands of Balvaird through his wife, Margaret Barclay, when her father James Barclay of Arngask and Kippo died in 1499. Although much obscured by weathering, the remains of the Murray and Barclay coats of arms can be seen above the castle’s doorway.”
