Notes

James Conner died Teste but his will has been lost. His estate was probated in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, the present Culpepper County. Many records exist with Margaret listed as the widow of James Conner. They held land known as "Guineys" in Caroline County, Virginia and at the Great Fork of the Rappahannock. [Anne Baker, GenForum 12 Jan 2000 #1122]

Margaret Conner lived in the Great Fork of the Mattapony.

• Made: 4 Mar 1745, Proved: 16 May 1751
• In the name of God amen I Margaret Conner ( widow) being sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory thank [sic] be to Almighty God for it and as touching my temporal affairs doth make this my last will and testament. First I princepally recommend my soul to God who gave it hoping through the death and passion of my Blessed Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ to receive full & free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins & for my body to ye ground to be decently buryed at the discretion of my ex'r hereafter named.
• And for my temporal estate which it hath pleased God to bestow upon me I give and dispose of in manner and for me following (viz) ___ ___
• Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved son James Conner all that tract of land & plantation whereon I now live to him and his heirs forever it being four hundred acres be ye same more or less.
• Item I give to my beloved son William Conner a ring of gold.
• Item I give to my beloved daughter MARGARET WINN an equal part of my waring cloath.
• Item I give to my beloved daughter Ann Kelly an equal part of my warin cloath
• Item I give to my beloved daughter Hannah Wood an equal part of my cloaths
• Item I give to my daughter Elizabeth Lynch an equal part of my cloaths
• Item I give & bequeath to my beloved daughter Sarah Balynger an equal part of my waring cloaths
• my desire is that my waring cloaths be equaly divided amongst all my daughters at my death. Item
• All the rest of my personal estate what kind so ever as well negroes, as cattle, hogs, horses, and all my houshold furniture and the crops at my death, then made or making to him and his heirs forever.
• And lastly my desire is that all my just debts be paid and discharged and my funeral expensesby my said son James Conner who I constitute and appoint my whole & sole ex'r of this my Last Will Testiment (sic) revoking and disannulling all former and other wills by me heretofore made: & rattifying & confirming this to be my Last Will & Testement In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this forth day of March one thousand seven hundred & forty fore five (sic) her

It is ordered that William Connor heir at law to the testatrix who resides in the County of Caroline be summoned to appear at the next Court to contest the validity of the said will if he thinks fit.
• 22 Nov. 1751. The said William Connor heir at law of the said Margaret being duly summoned declared he had no objection to make to the said will.
