Margaret Leeming, Free Settler "Margaret" 1841

Other research has Richard Leeming arriving on the "Margaret", 28 March 1841, with wife Margaret, both aged about 30, both farm servants, Wesleyan, with 3 daughters Jane, Emma and Alice, perhaps aged from 5 to 10 (indexes/records NSW Gov, Margaret Page 4). See bottom of this page for probable info on the daughters.

Richard was from Yorkshire, Margaret was from Lancashire, as were the daughters.

There is a death for a Margaret Leeming 1844/142 108, age 29, who could be Richard's wife.

If she was about 30 in 1841, she'd be about 33 when she died 1844.

An infant, Mary Leeming, also died 1844/1 109, possibly their daughter. They both died at birth?

1. Eldest daughter Jane moved to the Shoalhaven after her marriage:

Death 1883/11520 Shoalhaven; Hodgkinson, Jane, daughter of Richard and Margaret

Death 1899/10420 Paddington; Hodgkinson, Henry, age 86 years.

Henry Hodgkinson moved to Paddington after his wife Jane died. He must have been in touch with his wife's half sister Martha:

Martha Alcorn Allerton is the daughter of Richard and Eliza Leeming, half sister of Jane Hodgkinson.

2. Emma.

It is believed, in other research, that Emma married Robert Lindsay. No BDM Marriage found.

Daughters born to Robert and Emma Lindsay have the names "Alice Bleasdale" and "Margaret Leeming" which strongly supports that Emma was "Leeming".

The McArthurs were living in Terrara, Shoalhaven, and could explain why Richard Caleb Leeming (Junior) moved there. Richard joined the Orange Lodge with John McArthur;
