About Mariano Álvarez
Mariano Alvarez was a Filipino revolutionary and stateman. Related by marriage to Andres Bonifacio, he was elected President of the Madiwang faction of the Katipunan. After the revolution, he served as a municipal president in his province. The municipality was renamed in 1981 in his honor.
