Marie Tavernier

Marie Tavernier was born on May 27, 1631 in St-Malo-de-Randonnay, Tourouvre, Mortagne, Perche, France; the daughter of Eloi Tavernier and Marguerite Gagnon. She arrived in the Quebec Colony as a Filles A Marier, contracted to be the bride of Gilles Bacon. They were married May 02, 1647 in Ville De Quebec.

Gilles was born about 1620 in St-Gilles, Caen, Bayeux, Normandy, France; the son of Etienne Bacon and Marie Feron. He and Marie would have just two children before his death on March 05, 1654 in Ville De Quebec. Marie would not remarry but instead became a nun, dying at the Hotel Dieu where she served on February 02, 1700.

My guess is that in her later years Marie Tavernier became a nun after her husband died in 1654. This was not unusual in those days.

Soeur Marie Tavernier Sainte-Monique, vivaient en 1666 à Beaupré, Montmorency. Elle débute son noviciat comme religieuse converse à l'Hôtel-Dieu de Québec le 19 mars 1668. Elle est professe le 19 octobre 1669. (fiche de #1624)
