Born in Shelby on July 6, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Eulan Marion and Ethel Beatrice Edney Humphries. Loretta was a lifelong member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. She worked in the finance department for the City of Shelby for 28 years. Loretta loved her family, friends, and grandchildren, and she enjoyed giving gifts to all of them. Loretta is survived by her husband of 53 years, Roy Spurling; a daughter, Mitzi Springle and husband Patrick of Angier; a brother, Phil Humphries and wife Kaye of Shelby; and two grandchildren, Seth and Sydney Springle.

Visitation: The family will receive friends following the service. Funeral Service: Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at 6 p.m. in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
