About Mary Bass - Staples
Mary _______ was the second wife of John Bass. Her maiden name is unknown. She married a Mr. Staples after the death of John Bass.
It is not clear which of John Bass's children were with Love Harris, and which with Mary _____.
Mary is named in John's will dated 18 January 1731/32 and proved at February Court 1732, Bertie County, North Carolina. In the will he gave his wife Mary "the liberty of the plantation ... for bringing up my small children" and referred to "my sd last wife's children...."
She may have married a John Staples, or his relative . There was a John Staple living in the household of William Bass (brother of John) in 1730 and 1732 in the Southern Branch District, near Deep Creek, Norfolk County, VA.
As "Mary Staples widow and relict of John Bass, Sr." she sold her one third interest in the plantation where she was living on 21 November 1748 to her stepson, John Bass, Jr.[2]
Mary's date of death is unknown, but it would be after November 1748.
