About Mary Katherine Shelby

Katherine E. Shelby, MSN, WHNP died suddenly early Saturday, November 1, 2003 at her home in Universal City, Texas. Kathy was born September 22, 1949, the daughter of Arthur C. and Marylois Fleming Erdmann in Danville, Illinois.

Kathy married Robert I. Shelby on November 27, 1971 at Mattoon, Illinois. He survives along with a son William R. Shelby of San Antonio. She is also survived by her Mother-in-Law and Father-in-Law, Robert B. and Helen F. Shelby, and Brother-in-Law Douglas F. Shelby, all of Covington, Indiana. Also survived by several cousins, numerous tennis buddies, several special friends and numerous patients from her nursing practice. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kathy graduated from Sullivan Illinois High School in 1967 and Lakeview School of Nursing in 1970. Kathy received her BSN and MSN, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio in 1994. She received her Nurse Practitioner certificate in 1995.

Kathy was an RN at Northeast Baptist Hospital, San Antonio 1971 to 1995. She was Nurse Practitioner with Northeast OB GYN Associates from 1995 to the present.

She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Association of Women’s Health Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health (NPWH).

She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church for over 30 years.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. R. Kent Sadler, Dr. Bruce D. Akright, Dr. Scott A. Farhart, Dr. Vernon D. Theis, Dr. Gil R. Villanueva, Dr. Ingrid P. Skop, Dr. Mark E. Thompson, Dr. Anna L. Martinez, Dr. Tammy Murdock and Dr. Cameron Powell.

Visitation will be 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Tuesday, November 4 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Loop 1604 and Heubner Road, San Antonio, Texas.

Kathy will be taken to Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, Indiana for visitation Saturday, November 8 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. Graveside services will be held in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan, Illinois at 3:00 pm Saturday, November 8, 2003, with Rev. Ronald Schmidt officiating.
