About Mary Upson

Mary (Lee) Upson was the eldest daughter of John Lee, of Farmington and his wife, Mary Hart. She was born 14 August ​1664 in Farmington.

Family life

In December 1682, Mary married Stephen Upson, son of Thomas Upson of Farmington, in Waterbury. Stephen died in 1735 at the age of "80, or over."

Per Sarah Marsh Lee:

Mary, daughter of John Lee, the settler, married, Dec. 28, 1682, Stephen Upson, son of Thomas, one of the early inhabitants of Hartford, and one of the original proprietors of Farmington. Stephen was one of the first company of proprietors and settlers of Waterbury, Conn., Dec. 29, 1679. "He was surveyor, one of the school committee, grand juror; often, selectman, and three times deputy to the General Court." He was a sergeant in 1718-19; he had a seat with the "veterans" in the new meeting house. He was by trade a carpenter.
