Notes
a. Note: Mary Bevill, the daughter of Essex and Amy Bevill of Henrico County, Virginia, was born in 1662. She married Charles Worsham of Henrico c1685 and they made their home at Bermuda Hundred in that county. Mary and Charles had five children, three sons and two daughters. Their sons were: Francis, Essex, and William Worsham. The daughters' names are subject to speculation. Ward family tradition maintains that one of the daughters was named Frances and that she married Richard Ward, son of Captain Seth Ward and Anne Hatcher of Henrico County. Mary Bevill Worsham survived her husband who died before 2 June 1712.
A court case involving Mary wife of Charles Worsham is found in Henrico Co., VA Minute Bk, 1719-1724 pp 233, 358 & 362. The following is a quote from the book, "Worsham & Washam Family History" by Dorothy G. Tuttle & Larry E. Washam page 19: There was a suit for debt between ROBERT BLAWS, Plt and MARY WORSHAM Deft in Henrico Feb Court 1722 for 20 shillings & ESSEX WORSHAM was her security. In Henrico Co. Sept Court, another suit appeared. This suit was between RICHARD HAVEWELL, lesee of JOHN WORSHAM Plt. vs MARY & WM WORSHAM Deft. It was brought out in the suit that JOHN WORSHAM deeded the land in dispute to his brother CHARLES WORSHAM for 99 years on 2 Dec 1678. After CHARLES WORSHAM'S death, JOHN WORSHAM rented it to RICHARD HAVEWELL. It also stated that MARY was the lawful wife of CHARLES WORSHAM, dec'd and that WM WORSHAM was the eldest son and heir of CHARLES WORSHAM. WM WORSHAM had leased the land in dispute for 99 years for a quart of rum a year to ESSEX WORSHAM and that CHARLES left at his death 3 sons and 2 daughters which were still living. In Henrico Co. Oct 1724 Court, verdict was found for the Deft MARY & WM. WORSHAM & JOHN WORSHAM was ordered to pay a certain amount of tobacco to his three witnesses Peter Hunsaker, George Worsham & Charles Roberts for appearing in court.
