Max WALDSTEIN was born in Dörzbach, Württemberg on 30th. December 1836.

He was a ministerial civil servant and a writer, besides being an honorary citizen of the city of Ficht. (cf. Death Notice)

Birth Date & Place given and additional information on his career: apparently he moved to Vienna in 1842 where he first worked as an optician before taking up a post as ministerial civil servant. His publications include: "Gedichte" (1854), "Hochzeitslieder" (1858), the novel: "Bekenntnisse eines Hoftheaterdirektors" (1883), "Ein alter Tenorist" (1907), the anecdotes: "Aus Wiens lustiger Theaterzeit" (1885) as well as a considerable number of comedies, opera-librettos and opera-scripts.

Max died in Wien on 17th. March 1919, at the age of 84. He was buried on 19th. March 1919 in Wien, Zentralfriedhof: TIV/4-2-57.

"Max Waldstein (* 30. Dezember 1836 in Dörzbach; † 17. März 1919 in Wien) war ein deutscher Optiker, österreichischer Ministerialbeamter, Schriftsteller und Ehrenbürger der Stadt Bad Ischl.[1] Er war jüdischen Glaubens. Er wurde als Sohn der Eheleute Jakob Waldstein geboren und hatte als Geschwister den späteren Schriftsteller Ludwig (1836-1919), Simon sowie die aus der zweiten Ehe seines Vaters mit Babette Leidesdorf stammende Antonia Passauer (1844 – 1926)[2] die mit Dr. med. Moritz Passauer verheiratet war und deren Stiftung[3] während des Nationalsozialismus an die heutige IKG[4] überging."
