Biography He was a member of the noble family Brantsen and a son of the King's Commissioner in Gelderland Mr. Derk Willem Gerard Johan Hendrik Brantsen (1801-1851) and Jacoba Charlotta Juliana baroness van Heeckeren van Kell (1802-1882), member of the family Van Heeckeren ; he was a brother of Carel Marie baron Brantsen (1834-1909). After the death of his father in 1851 he became baron (he was a gentleman ), after his death his brother Carel Marie became baron. He married 'Alwina Agnes Clementina Bohlen (1841-1926) in 1865, with whom he had three children.
Brantsen obtained his PhD in theoretical and contemporary law at Utrecht University in 1854 on theses. Then he became a lawyer in his hometown. In 1860 he became commies of state at the Council of State .
From 1882 to 1894 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the States General , from 1897 to 1899 of the Senate of the States General . In the House of Representatives he dealt with water affairs, agriculture, industry and postal services. He turned against the electoral right in 1894 and joined the Lohmannians .
From 1851 to 1861, Brantsen was the chamberjon of King William III, and thereafter, until his death, he became a chamberlain in the extraordinary ministry of King William III and Queen Wilhelmina. From 1867 to 1877, he was a member of the commission to manage the legacy of the late King William II. He was a knight in the Order of the Golden Lion of Nassau .
Brantsen lived and died at Zypendaal's house .
