About P.D. Devasahayam
Late Mr. P. Devasahayam B A, LT. was the first Indian headmaster of Duthie English High School for Girls, Nagercoil. His 32 years of sevice in the school resulted in its all round development and growth. He was chosen as the Vice -President of Nagercoil Municipality and did new improvements in the town. In recognition of his valuable services the, Government appointed him as Panchayat Court Judge and Honorary Bench Magistrate for 3 years.
He was a deacon of the Nagercoil Home Church for 21 years (1914 - 1936).
He was responsble for the development and growth of Nagercoil Indian Christian Widow Welfare Association as its President and Director for fifteen years.
His grand father Dawasi Perumal Nadar alias Paramanandam and his grand mother Shanthai Arulai were converted to Christianity by Rev. Charles Mault who was one of the pioneer missionaries of the London Missionary Society in the year 1806. They have 2 sons Mr.P.D. Dewsagaim and Mr.P.D.Packianathan. P.Devasahayan was the eldest son of Mr.P.D.Packianathan.
P. Devashayam married Packiam, the eldest daughter of Jacob who was a mission writer. They have five sons and five daughters.
