About PauPauwiske, of the Powhatan

It is believed that Wahunsonacock , Opitchapam, Opechancanough and Kekataugh were brothers, sharing the same mother, through whom they inherited the chiefdom of Powhatan. Unfortunately, the name of this Pamunkey Powhatan woman is not known. Based upon the matrilineal inheritance practices of the Pamunkey / Powhatan it is believed that she was the sister of the Weroance of Powhatan, who Wahunsonacock would have succeeded. In 1609 Wahunsonacock named "Opitchapam, Opechancanough, and Kekataugh, my two sisters, and their two daughters" as his successors in a speech to John Smith. From this one speech we know Wahunsonacock had 3 brothers and 2 sisters from the same mother. It does not tell us who their mother was or who any of their father's were ONLY that they shared their mother.

Hi Linda, I am afraid that there is a lot of fabrication of names in the Indian ancestry. There is no evidence that Powhatan had a grandfather named Dashing Stream. Nothing is known about Powhatan's bloodline except that the great Nemattanon/Don Luis de Velasco was probably his maternal uncle. Some records call him Powhatan's father, but that was the Indian Uncle/Father relationship, as Nemattanon was not old enough to have been Powhatan's father. You have to be VERY careful if you are using the Shawnee Heritage books. They are very largely fabricated with a multitude of errors.

Evidence needed to support as wife of Cornstalk Chalakatha, of the Shawnee
