About Pierre Berthon de Marigny
The province of Poitou sent many excellent Huguenot families to America. From Chatel- lerault, an important town, which lost by the flight of the Protestant inhabitants more than a tenth part of its population, and that of the best and thriftiest, came Pierre Berthon de Marigny, and Marguerite, his wife, Marie Fleuriau, widow, with her son Pierre and daughter Marquise, and her son-in-law Louis Carré; Ami Canche, and Louise, his wife ; and Charles icrauit. Pierre Berthon or Berton, took the lead of the Narragansett colony, in Rhode Island. Louis Carre came to New York, and became prominent as a merchant, and as a member of the French Church in that city. Ami Canche was one of the settlers of New Paltz, Ulster county, New York. Charles Fromaget
