R' Eliezer Katzenellenbogen (Eleazar Lazarus) of Alsace was born in 1700.

He became A.B.D. in Bamberg in Bavaria and then A.B.D. in Hagenau n Alsace from 1755-1771.

His wife was Jached, daughter of R' Samuel Helman A.B.D. of Metz (died 1766). They were of the Heilprin family and a distant relative of his mother Leah. Leah was the daughter of R' Eliezer Heilprin. He was one those consulted about the Cleves divorce case, which involved his brother and his relative R' Israel Lipschutz. (See Lipschutz Family Pedigree - Chapter V1 - C).

He wrote approbations to Chamesh Shitot LaRaMBan by Nachmanides, published Sultzbach 1762 and Chochmat Shlomo by Solomon Luria, published Sulzbach 1782.

Novellae were left on the Talmud in manuscript. His responsa arrearwth those of his brother, R' Phineas, published in Frankfurt-on-Main 1857. In Ohr Hayashar there is a responsum of his to his brother R' Naftli, written in Hagenau in 1766.
