His wife was a descendant of a line of rabbis in NE Poland and Lithuania, one branch of which took the name Margolis, another branch took the name Rabinson/Robinson (rabbi's son). She was the daughter of Itel, sister of Shmuel (Margolis line) and Asher the Great of Grodno (Rabinson line).

Itel's son's took various surnames, including Efrati, Pruzhany, and Itelson. It's likely incorrect that this woman had a surname, Efrati would have been the surname chosen by one of her brothers in the early 1800s.
