  • Richard Bowen, the immigrant ancestor, came from Kittle Hill, Glamorganshire, Wales, to this county about 1638 and settled at Rehoboth, Massachusetts. He was a son of James and Eleanor Bowen, of Ilewyndwar, Pembrokeshire, Wales, and grandson of Mathias Bowen or Bowin. He was a proprietor and town officer in Rehoboth, and was admitted a freeman, June 4, 1645. He married (first) Ann ___, and (second) Elizabeth ___. He was buried February 4, 1674, and in his will, dated June 4, 1673, he bequeathed to his wife and children. His widow was buried in 1685. Children: William; Obadiah, mentioned below; 'Richard'; Thomas; Alice, married ___ Wheaton; Sarah, married ___ Fuller; Ruth, married ___ Leverich.

  • Richard Bowen came from Kittle Hill, Glamorganshire, Wales, to this country, about 1638, lived for a time at Weymouth and settled at Rehoboth, Massachusetts. He was a proprietor and town officer in Rehoboth, and was admitted a freeman, June 4, 1645. His first wife bore the name of Ann and the second Elizabeth. He was buried February 4, 1674, and in his will dated June 4, 1673, he bequeathed his property to his wife and children. His widow was buried in 1685. Origin

William Bart Saxbe in his genealogy on the Richard Bowen family says that Richard (Jr.) Bowen was born about 1631.<ref name="Saxby"> Saxbe Jr., William B. (2011). Richard Bowen (1594? - 1675) of Rehoboth, Massachusetts & his Descendants. Volume 1 – Generations 1-3.(pp 32-34). Hope, R.I.: Rhode Island Genealogy Society. pages 32-34. </ref> In light of his 1646 marriage his birth must have been about 1626. His memorial on FindAGrave records Richard's birth around 1626 in Wales. FindAGrave|36258505||Richard Bowen, citing Newman Cemetery, East Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island, USA; Maintained by Diana L. Brace (contributor 46885260); no marker. </ref> He was the son of Richard Bowen. His mother's name is not known.

Death

Richard passed away in March 1722/3<ref name="Saxby" /> at Rehoboth, which was after 1691, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
