About Richard Anderson Roberts
Richard Roberts accompanied the Custer column to the Little Bighorn as a civilian herder and part-time correspondent for the New York Sun. He had to drop out 70 miles from the Little Bighorn when his pony gave out, thereby sparing his life. He was the brother-in-law of Captain George Yates who was killed in the battle.
