The village of Little Budworth is about 10 miles from the village of Great Budworth (which is not involved in the Grosvenor story). Both places are called Budworth in early records - the Great and Little were added later. Little Budworth was sometimes called Budworth in the Frith.
Both villages were in (Great) Budworth parish, which was a very large parish.
Tradition says Robert Le Grosvenor, son of Gilbert, had the overlordship of Over Lostock in Cheshire, given to him by Wiiliam the Conquerer's uncle and continued in the family until 1465. He settled in Cheshire.
