some analysis

"The Gatehouse"

Sir Robert Ogle, Knt. (after 1329 (?)- c.1362/3) is the son of Joan Hepple and Robert Ogle. He married the daughter and sole heir of the Baron of Bothall, Helen Bertram,[1] bringing the Bertram estate under the control of Ogle,[2][1] He also built Ogle Castle.[1]

Ogle was an interesting man. He fought the Scots during the first and second wars of Scottish independence.[1] Wallis (1769), tells us that he was at the Battle of Stanhope Park (03–04 Aug 1327) with Edward III ... and fought again at the Battle of Neville's Cross on the 17th of October 1346.[1][1][3] If so, he was probably born much earlier than the proposed date of his parent's marriage by Ogle (1902)... unless Wallis (1769), confused grandfather and son, which seems likely where the Battle of Stanhope Park is concerned.

In any event, Robert's own son and heir died prematurely, leaving his grandson to succeed him in the 36th year of Edward III (c.1363).[1][2] Givens-Wilson (2002), explains that Ogle actually lost two sons when the Scots took Berwick.

In any case, his wife outlived them all, and had at least three husbands. After Robert died, "Eleanor," Baroness of Bothall, went on to marry John of Hatfield.[1] ... Her last husband was David of Holgrave.[2]
