Salomon Shmaja Shmüya Schmay (later the Adler line ?)

"Salomon Schmaya der Moises Gabriel" is mentioned the 1727 Report on the Jews [Familianten] of Uhersky Ostroh, Image 24/58 (which is posted with Project Page on Jewish Families from Uhersky Ostroh (Ungarisch-Ostra), Moravia). He is mentioned in connection with Ostroh Haus No. 2, or perhaps No. 3, depending on how one interprets the arrangement of the page. The Jews had not yet been required to take surnames (Germanicized ones) when the Uhersky Ostroh documents referenced here were created.

Similar information appears in an earlier version of the list, re Haus No. 2, at Image No. 3/58. Mentions Gabriel Moses, then goes on to refer to Schmaja sohn Marcus Lobl.

Called Schmaya Salomon, he appears in Ostroh records from the Liechtenstein Archive dating to the 1730-1740s (also posted with Project Page on Jewish Families from Uhersky Ostroh (Ungarisch-Ostra), Moravia). Entry for "Schmaya" of this era is based on a Michael Stern genealogical line stated at P. Rohel's RootsWeb site to be descended from a Schmaya Adler (no location, no sources, no reason given for asserting connection between Sterns and S. Adler).
