About Samuel Godbertson
From: "Plymouth Colony" by Eugene Aubrey Stratton, pg 277 Cuthbertson, Samuel - The son of Cuthbert and Sarah Cuthbertson, he later shortened his name to Samuel Cuthbert. He arrived on the 1623 Ann. Following the death of his parents, he put himself out as an apprentice on 1 April 1634 for a term of seven years to Richard Higgins of Plymouth. Richard Higgins on 31 August 1639 transferred his apprenticeship to John Smalley for Samuel to learn tailoring (PCR 1:129) He was granted lands at Marshfield, and later moved to Dartmouth. A deed shows him resident at Achushnet (Dartmouth) and the heir of Godber Godberson, deceased (MD 16:182). He had one known son, Samuel, who died at Middleborough on 17 April 1699, age forty-two (Wood, Middleborough deaths, p.52)
