About Sara Roberts

Re wife Sara Roberts of John Bate, of Lydd

The big question is who was John Bate Bates son of Sir Thomas Bates' (born about 1460) wife.

Was it Margaret John or this lady Sarae Roberts born in ~1434? Both appear and are "confirmed" in various on line trees. Sarae was born about 1434 making her approximately 26 years older than John. That would have been very strange at that time (or even now). But the deal breaker for Sarae was that Andrew was born in ~1494 in every tree i've seen. The lady would have been 60! To me it seems clear that Sarae is not John's wife or Andrew's mother. I don't now where if anywhere she fits in the Bates family tree. In addition there are probably dozens of trees on line that have this lady in them but almost none list either a husband or child's name. When you find either it is a child's name but even that is rare. On the other hand Margaret John appears in a bunch of trees attached to this site. However, I can find little about her except that her father is supposedly Edward John and mother Elizabeth Woodville. i am trying to research them further and if anyone has any information on Margaret John and family I would be most interested. Thanks Albert Bates Finch (Al)
