1736 death date for this Sarah Adams is incorrect. Sarah Adams Earl and husband Nathaniel Earl were in Beekman Patent, NY by 1740. "On 16 Jan 1746/7, John Earl and his wife Rachel (Adams) and brother Nathaniel and his wife Sarah, all of Beekmansberg, acknowledged that they had received their full share in the estate of Richard Adams, deceased." TAG 25:247; also Settlers of Beekman Patent by Frank Doherty p. 623.

NATHANIEL EARL was born at Little Compton, RI 28 Jan. 1705 and m. ca. 1728 Sarah, born 30 July 1710 at Canterbury, CT, daughter of Richard and Mary (Cady) Adams of Pomfret, CT.
He came to the Pawling area of the Beekman Patent with his brother John ca. 1739. His tax listings in Beekman were not as high as his brother John’s, as will be seen, but were above the average, as follows: …
Nathaniel Earl was in the Colonial Militia and was commissioned as Captain 1 Feb. 1758 with Bastion Wheeler as 1st Lieut. [SBP 1:380].
He enlisted men in the Company commanded by Capt. Richard Rea in Dutchess County May 1760. Capt. Rea had 9 men enlisted from Earl’s company in this muster. They appear to have all been from the Pawling area and included his assumed son Nathaniel who was 18 years old and born in Dutchess County, a farmer. Four men from Capt. Earl’s company were also enlisted at this time in a company commanded by Captain Jacobus Swartwout. [NYMR 265, 271].
Nathaniel Earl was listed as ‘ill’ on 4 March 1746 by Rev. Knoll, the Lutheran minister who was distributing Communion. [RECORD 1973:184]. Sarah Earl, probably the wife of Nathaniel, joined the Dover Baptist Church in 1761.
He probably removed to Washington Co., NY soon after 1771 and was most likely the man in Hoosick Town, Albany Co. in 1790 at 1 male only. Letters were granted on his estate to Daniel Earl, eldest son of Nathaniel Earl of Cambridge, Washington Co., NY 13 April 1791. [LofA WC 1:35]. John G. Hunt, R.S.C. in TAG 38:175-179, claims this man went to Massachusetts about 1760 and then to Nova Scotia about 1776. The Beekman/Pawling tax records don’t seem to support this.
Children:
- 1. Daniel, b. ca. 1729; m. Mehitable Watson.
- 2. Patience; m. Nathaniel Wallace. Nathaniel Wallace was of Dover June 1763 through June 1765. A Nathaniel Wallace was in Ballstown Town, Albany Co., NY in 1790 at 1-2-4 and between Nathaniel Grunnison and Aaron Sturges. (See our Wallace family).
- 3. Nehemiah. Nehemiah Earl signed a petition 21 Nov. 1766 in Dutchess Co. concerning allegedly vacant land in the Pawling area. John Earle also signed this petition. [SBP I:408]. He removed to Whitehall, NY and ca. 1792 from there to Onondaga Co., NY where he died about 1808. Nehemiah Earl was one of the bondsmen for guardianship on children of William Sand of Onondaga Co., NY 9 May 1803. [Onondaga Co. Misc. Records, no page #]. He received Land Bounty Rights for service in the 14th Albany Militia. [NYR 235].
