About Sarah Mary Rice
Notes
Jan 2014:
LDS has DOB as 18 December 1696 Little Compton,Newport,Rhode Island,USA & 2nd marriage to Thomas Manchester I720. Pcez has DOB as b. ABT 1693 of Woodstock, Windham, CT & no impossible 2nd marriage. However both sites report Samuel Rice as dead in 1717 - before his children were born ....
June 2014:
Cannot have been a daughter of William Earle & Hepzibah Butts; they were married in Little Compton, Rhode Island, in 1725, two years before the reported birth of the Earle born in Woodstock, Connecticut. They had 4 daughters recorded in Little Compton Vital Records, beginning 1726, and whose marriages are accounted for.
There is a reference in the Earl Genealogy to "a (presumed) sister of John Earle" marrying Samuel Rice; this seems to be the source of the confusion. Jonathan Earle (son of William & Hepzibah) was a fellow lease holder in Lot 4 of the Beekman Patent.

- http://hylbom.com/family/paternal-lines/paternal-dy-to-gi/earle-5600/ "William Earle was of Dartmouth when he sold 112 acres to Peleg Slocum in August 1693 for £65. He sold more land in 1696 to Robert Havens and was a Constable in 1695 and 1696. His children were recorded in Little Compton but the Earle Family Genealogy, (page 29), notes “no further history of this family is found: they probably emigrated from New England.” The family is next found in Pomfret, Connecticut, and several of William Earle’s children came to the Beekman Patent[12]. Samuel Rice, John Franklin and John Earl were all in lot 4 area of Pawling by about 1740. Rice and Franklin married (presumed) sisters to John Earle."
