About Seah Liang Seah 佘连城
Seah Liang Seah (1850-1924) was the son of Seah Eu Chin, a pioneer of the canned pineapple industry and was the founder of the Ngee Ann Kongsi which served the Teochew community. The Ngee Ann Kongsi is one of the leading foundations in Singapore today. Not only did Seah Liang Seah buy over Whampoa's house, he was also Whampoa's successor when he took over the position vacated by Whampoa in the Legislative Council in 1880. The Teochew millionaire was not only the Legislative Councillor (1883-1890, 1894-1895), but he was also a Municipal Commissioner in the 1890s. In 1926, a road was named Liang Seah Street in his honour - see http://pictures.nl.sg/SearchByTag.aspx?tag=Liang Seah Street.
