Served four months as sergeant in Capt. Ralph Hillery's Co., Col. Baker Johnson's Maryland Reg. In the battle of Germantown.

Served two months as Pri. guarding prisoners at Frederickstown and two months guarding Magazine.

James came to Adams Co with his sons, James H. and Vachel Ball... Vol. 2, p. 191-192: James Ball by Peggy Dick The 1979 History of Adams Co, IN, p. 144, gives a history of George Ball, Revolutionary Soldier, which should have been "James Ball." To correct many other printed stories on this soldier, research in church and courthouse records was done to document the recorded facts and information about this soldier. From the Clerk of the Circuit Court, Frederick Co, MD, a marriage licesnse was issued 20 Feb 1779 to James Ball and Rebecca Hinton... also in church records of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick Co, MD, as are the baptisms of their first two children: Daniel, b. 5 Nov 1779, and Vachel, b. 10 Oct 1782. Rachel Hinton Ball is thought to be d/o Thomas and Rachel Hinton (from the 1792 will of Thomas Hinton who mentions his daughter, Rachel Ball). In 1858, Adams Co, IN, Vachel H. Ball was granted administration of the James Ball estate for the purpose of collecting the pension due from service in the Revolutionary War. The record states that James Ball d. 8 May 1834, Root Twp, Adams, Indiana. James left no widow, but names children Vachel, James and Daniel. An undocumented list of children of James Ball, Revolutionary Soldier, gives the following names: Daniel, Vachel, James, George, Christopher, Joseph, Matthew, and Rachel Ball... An agreement in the Adams Co, IN courthouse verifies the 11 children of Vachel Ball (1782-1862) and Sarah Henry (1792-aft. 1870) who married on 19 Dec 1807, Frederick Co, MD. Children: i.
