William Ross, Lord Ross, is the son of James Ross, Lord Ross and his wife Jean Sempill The Scots Peerage VII: 254

Previous to his succession to the Peerage he was known as William Ross of Torphin, or as Sir William Ross of Muriston or Newriston. He was on the Committee of War for the county of Renfrew 26 August 1643 and 24 July 1644. The Scots Peerage VII: 257

Death

William Ross, Lord Ross, here treated, is reported to have died in 1656. However, it would appear that this is wrong. He is certainly known to have died before 23 October 1652. The Scots Peerage VII: 257 NRS: GD119/355
