About Stephen Place

Biography

Stephen Place was born circa March 21, 1735 in North Kingstown, Washington County, Rhode Island, United States. His parents were Enoch Place, III and Hannah (Wilcox) Place.

Stephen married Martha (Perkins) Place on March 20, 1768. Together they had the following children: Hannah Place; Brig. Gen. Solomon Place; Jeremiah Place; Newman Place; Mehitable Place; Godfrey Place; Martha Place; Stephen Place, Jr; Patience Place.

He died on August 11, 1817 in Foster, Providence County, Rhode Island, United States and was buried in Place-Battey Cemetery.



Believed to have served in Captain Rose's Company in 1758 and in the Campaign of 1762 (Revolutionary War).

He lived where his father had lived in the Moosup Valley.

His will, dated 10/20/1849 stated the following:

I leave my son Raymond G. 40 acres, south part of my farm and a 5 acre woodlot known as plain lot. Raymond was directed to pay Olive L. Valentine $200.00. Olive and Sarah Ann Vaughn, were also left $400.00 in the will. A Roby A. Place, was left $200.00 dollars. Son of Enoch Place and his wife Hannah Wilcox. Married Martha Perkins on March 29, 1768.
