• Genesis 38:6-30
• According to Book of Jubilees, Judah had brought her from Aram-Naharaim.
• According to Midrash Genesis Rabbah 85:10, she was the "daughter" of Shem, i.e. descendant. There are 10 generations between Shem and Judah, so being an actual daughter is not likely, but still possible!

Tamar was a childless widow, who was given to her brother-in-law after her husbands death. By this marriage, her offspring would continue the name of & inheritance of the deceased. such a union was later called a Leverite marriage (Deut. 25:5-6). She later seduced her father in-law, Judah ., and gave birth to two of his children.

Genesis 38:6-30

Tamar se casó con el hijo mayor de Judá, Er, pero no era un buen hombre y Dios le quitó la vida, después Judá la casó con Onán, su segundo hijo, para que le dejara descendencia a su hermano Er; pero Onán quería sus propios hijos y cada que tenía relaciones con Tamar se cuidaba para no tener hijos de ella; entonces, Dios, también le quitó la vida. Como Sela, el hijo menor de Judá, aún era muy pequeño, Judá se llevó a Tamar a vivir a su casa hasta que su hijo menor cumpliera la edad de matrimonio. Al paso del tiempo muere la esposa de Judá, la hija de Sua. Cuando Judá dejó de guardar luto, fue al pueblo de Timnat, donde estaban los que trasquilaban sus ovejas. Cuando Tamar supo que su suegro había ido a trasquilar sus ovejas, se quitó el vestido de viuda, se cubrió con un velo para que nadie la reconociera, y se sentó en la entrada de un pueblo. Judá pensó que era prostituta y se acercó a ella. Tamar se asegura de algunos objetos de Judá como garantía de pago y él se los da. Cuando vinieron a decirle a Judá que su nuera había estado con otros hombres ella le muestra sus objetos, Judá los reconoce y nunca más vuelve a acostarse con ella.
