The following names appear to be a supposed ancestral line for Hughes de Payn, founder of the Knights Templar. In fact, his ancestry is currently unknown. - Thibault de Payen, supposedly born France 1001 and died England 1086.
- Tybaud "The Moore" Gardille de Payen, born Normandy 1012 and died Normandy 1064, married Catherine X, no surname, no dates or places.
- Tibaud de Payen, born Normandy 1035 and died England 1094, married Elizabeth X, no surname, born 1038 and died 1092, location unknown. He had a sister named Adelaide de Payen Languedoc who is similarly unsourced and quite possibly unsourceable.
- Hugh de Payen, born 1070 in France and died 1131 in England, and married to Catherine St Clair is a fictional version of the same person as Hughes de Payens, the founder of the Knights Templar, who actually married Elizabeth de Chappes.
