About Thomas Knox of Selvieland
THOMAS KNOX OF SELVIELAND
The immediate predecessor of Thomas Knox of Selvieland has not been identified. However, he was the successor if not the actual descendant of Gilbert Knox of Selvieland who was in possession of Selvieland one hundred and fifty years or so earlier.
Thomas Knox of Selvieland here treated is not mentioned in the Reverend Robert D. MacKenzie's brief account of the family of Knox of Selvieland. Kilbarchan, pp. 226-27 Thomas appears to have succeeded to Selvieland in 1463.The Sheriff of Renfrew was certainly instructed to give him sasine for Selvieland in that year. The Exchequer Rolls of Scotland, ix, 1480-1487, p. 669 A date of death has not been identified for him but he probably died before 6 November 1515, the date upon which his own successor John Knox of Selvieland paid five pounds to the Scottish Exchequer for the relief of Selvieland. The Exchequer Rolls of Scotland, xiv, 1513-1522, p. 578
