THOMAS ALEXANDER PASLEY DIROM OF LUCE AND MOUNT ANNAN

is the eldest son and heir of Captain Alexander Dirom and his wife, Joanna Elizabeth Peter (The Genealogy of the Dirom Family: Kittybrewster.com) He was born on 4 January 1831, at Halifax in Nova Scotia, and his baptism was registered on 10 February 1831, at Annan in Dumfriesshire, Scotland (Scotland, Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950, index, FamilySearch)

Change of Name

"Whitehall, April 27, 1864. The Queen has been pleased to grant unto Thomas Alexander Dirom, Esquire, a Brevet-Major in the Army, and a Captain in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, eldest son and heir of Alexander Dirom, Esquire, late a Captain in the 8th Regiment of Foot, who was the second son of Alexander Dirom, of Luce and Mount Annan, in the county of Dumfries, Esquire, a Lieutenant-General in the Army, and sometime Deputy-Adjutant-General of His Majesty's Forces in the East Indies, by Magdalen, his wife, eldest daughter and at length co-heir of Robert Pasley, of Craig, in the said county of Dumfries, Esquire, all deceased, Her Royal license and authority that he may (in compliance with a clause, contained in a certain Deed of Entail, bearing date the 29th day of July, 1830), henceforth take, assume, use, and bear the surname of Pasley, in addition to and before that of Dirom, and the arms and designation of "Dirom of Luce," and " Pasley of Mount Annan," and bear the said arms quarterly, and that the said surnames and arms' may be taken, used, and borne by his issue; such arms being first duly exemplified according to the laws of arms, and recorded in the Herald's Office, otherwise the said Royal license and permission to be void and of none effect: And also to command that the said Royal concession and declaration be registered in Her Majesty's College of Arms" [The London Gazette, May 3, 1864, page 2399].
