About Thomas Polhill, of Shoreham
The Kentish lines proper descended from the brother of John, i.e. Thomas. He married Joan Miller of Chelsfield. (36).
The Millers were an important family and the ancestors of the Saronets of Hosemayles, Crouch, near Wrotham, and of the Millers of Buckland,Surrey, afterwards of Sandon, Herts. There were four marriages between the Millers and the Polhills.
Thomas and Joan had five sons:-John, Thomas, David, Robert and William, and one daughter Agnes, who married Sir George Milton of St. Cleres, Ightham. Thomas died in 1528 and his will, which is Appendix B1, shOws him to have possessed property in Shoreham, Knockholt, Brasted, Sundridge and Orpington as well as the farm at Detling. Hasted regards him as the founder of four distinct lines through his sons, viz:-Shoreham, Wrotham, Otford and Tonbridge, - but their records are by no means so clear cut as to justify such classification. source http://polhill.info/book.php?p=1
