About Thomas Southworth, of Leiden

Biography

Extracted from https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Southworth-72 and then edited

Note: It appears that this Thomas (brother of Edward b. 1591 who married Alice Carpenter) remained in Leyden.

The rationale for this assumption is that "Thomas and Edward (the brothers) are the only two male Southworths that we can find associated with the Pilgrim Separatists group." Also, a review of all the records of the city of Leyden shows "only two Separatists with the Southworth surname -- Edward and Thomas."[5]

Note: not the father of Thomas Southard of New Amsterdam. Y DNA test results do not match.

Thomas is a witness at the Marriage of his brother Eduwaert Sodtwaert on May 28, 1613 Leiden

Previous Y-DNA testing According to the Southworth-Southard surname DNA Project Subgroup SF02 (Southworths from Samlesbury) includes not only Y-DNA descendants of Constant Southworth, but other Southworth, Sudduth, Southard and even a Davis family. Everyone in this grouping are close STR marker matches so it is possible they share a common patrilineal ancestry in England.

Comment: from http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~barbpretz/genealogy/ps03/ps03_439.htm

“The brothers, Thomas and Edward Southworth, who were baptized in 1583 and 1585 respectively, were born in Wellam, Notts., not Clayborough. Wellam is a hamlet near Clayborough. . . .The Nottinghamshire Southworths not only bore their arms with the colors of Salmesbury reversed, but the chevron was also red.” 1580
