This indenture made this Tenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five; Between Thomas Stockton and Fanny his Wife of County of Albemarle of one part and John Stockton of same County of other part; Witnesseth that Thomas Stockton and Fanny his Wife in consideration of sum of one hundred sixty pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by John Stockton, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, hath and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto John Stockton and to his heirs one certain tract of land containing one hundred forty eight acres lying in County of Albemarle on the Branches of Stockton's Creek and bounded, Begining at corner pointers and runing thence North seventy seven degrees East one hundred seventy nine poles to pointers, North forty two degrees East seventy two poles to pointers at the Fork of a Path, new lines North eighty four degrees West eight four poles to pointers by a Fence on a Path, South seventy four degrees West eighteen poles to a white Oake saplin on the Old line and with it soth twenty nine degrees West twenty three poles to a red Oak, South six degrees East thirty six poles to pointers, East thirty poles to pointers, South one hundred and eighty two poles to a Pine, South eighty degrees East twenty two poles to a Pine, North thirty five degrees East one hundred forty two poles to pointers, North twenty nine degrees East four poles to the first station; all houses orchards and water courses to the same belonging; To have and to hold the one hundred forty eight acres of land with appurtenances unto John Stockton and his heirs, and Thomas Stockton for himself and his heirs doth covenant with John Stockton his heirs that he will forever warrant and defend against him and his heirs and against all other persons; In Witness whereof Thomas Stockton and Fanny his Wife hath hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals this day and year first above written . . .
