Born probably about 1615 based on receipt of land grant in 1636 and approximate date of marriage. His place of origin and names of parents are unknown.

He arrived in New England in 1623 on the Anne, residing first in Plymouth, then Watertown by 1630 and Charlestown by 1643. He may have made a return trip to England with stepfather John Oldham 1628 to 1630.

He married by 1643 to Persis Pierce, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (_____) Pierce of Charlestown.

At a Charlestown selectmen's meeting, 22 Feb 1646/7, "It was agreed that Peter Tuft may join with his brother William Bridges to keep the ferry."[2]

  3. SAMUEL, b. 25 March 1647 [ChVR 1:10]; resided in Boston; m. (1) by 1672 Hannah _____ [BVR 122]; m. (2) Boston 3 December 1690 "Christian Peirse" [BVR 191], widow of Nathaniel Peirce and daughter of Anthony and Christian (Eire) Stoddard [Hale, House 739].
  4. MARY, b. prob. 1649, posthumously. She m. Charlestown 22 June 1668 John Knight [ChVR 1:28]. Thomas Pierce in his will of 7 November 1665 names granddaughter Mary Bridge, and Mary (Bridge) Knight twice names daughters Persis [MPR Case #17583; ChVR 1:72, 83].
